Dealing with debt collectors can be frustrating especially when you are far behind on payments. In a perfect world we would pay off our debt as soon as possible, but sadly sometimes life gets in the way. When you fall behind on payments you will first be contacted by collectors via phone calls and letters. If no payments are made after a period of six months the collectors may take you to court. You will get a warning before debt collectors decide to take legal action and these warnings should not be ignored. Normally you will receive a demand letter, which will act as your final notice before litigation begins. After that you will receive a summons and complaint that will either be served in person or by mail. Finally a court date will be set.
